For our next introduction into the teams that are the lifeblood of Mercedes-Benz South West, we are heading to our Plymouth dealership and their newly appointment General Manager, Lewis Cudlipp.
Lewis joined the motor industry in 1998 and trained as a technician with Honda before moving into sales for car audio equipment. Having then worked in both sales and management positions at various manufacturers based in Exeter, Lewis joined Mercedes-Benz of Plymouth in November 2018.
Where are you from? Newton Abbot.
Favourite Mercedes-Benz model? I’m still finding out about the range but the GLE so far.
Most memorable day at work you’ve ever had? November 2012 when I took on the role of GSM at Exeter Volkswagen. It was a real eye opener to move into management.
Favourite part of the job? The people: I think the camaraderie of a team in the motor trade is a special thing and very different to a lot of other industries.
Do you have any pets? A 14 year old Parsons Jack Russell called Buster. We got him at 18 months old after the previous owner couldn’t care for him (thankfully years later he’s calmed down a bit).
Have you always been in the motor trade? I have been in the motor trade for 20 years. Prior to that I worked as a postman for a year when I left school but decided that wasn’t for me.
How many attempts did it take you to pass your driving test? One.
What radio station are you listening to when you drive? Usually Talksport or 5 Live depending if there is football commentary on.
Favourite place to visit in the South West? Widemouth Bay, Bude or Saunton Sands.
Favourite TV Show to binge watch? Recently it’s been Fortitude.
Favourite Film? Any Lethal Weapon movie.
Favourite Band/Artist? Anything from Coldplay to Metallica – I listen to all sorts, it just depends on my mood.
First concert you ever went to? Oasis at Exeter Westpoint in 1996.
Tipple of choice? Heineken
What would be your Karaoke song? I can’t sing to save my life so for the sake of others I’m better off watching than singing.
Best holiday you’ve ever been on? Spain 2016 – we spent 2 weeks there and travelled from Madrid to Nerja and back with the kids and some friends. Then finished with the Real Madrid tour which was a great experience.
If the world ends tomorrow, what would you choose as your last meal? Steak and chips, all the trimmings and peppercorn sauce.
What are you most looking forward to this year? Getting to understand the business and more about the people so we can be in the best shape in 2019.
Finally… Jam then cream, or cream then jam? Jam then Cream.
