AMG Model vs AMG Line - what's the difference?

19 Jul 2023

AMG: three letters that you’re bound to come across at a Mercedes-Benz Dealership. But what does an AMG model have that an AMG Line doesn’t? How do you know which one is right for you?

The fundamental difference is this: the AMG Line adds cosmetic differences designed to add to the overall look and feel of the car, while an AMG Model features a high performance engine designed with driving in mind.

The History of AMG

Both the cosmetic trim and the high performance engines are borne from the rich racing heritage of Mercedes-Benz. The letters "AMG" stand for Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach. Aufrecht and Melcher were the original founders of AMG, and Großaspach was Aufrecht’s birth place.

Mercedes-Benz engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher began AMG as a racing engine forge in Germany in 1967. This new venture continued the rich racing history of Mercedes-Benz, which began with the Silver Arrow in 1934.

Today, AMG represents the highest standard of Mercedes-Benz, whether the slick styling of the AMG Line trim, or the roaring power of an AMG engine.

AMG Line

An AMG Line Mercedes-Benz is an undeniable statement of class. From the dominating diamond grille to the elegance of the man-made leather seats, adding an AMG Line trim takes your Mercedes-Benz to the next level.

The sportiness of the AMG Line is evident as soon as you open the door. The sport-style front seats make you feel supported and provide and enhanced driving position. Meanwhile, the multi-function steering wheel features a flat bottom, based on Mercedes-Benz racing vehicles.

The interior also features defined stitching in the upholstery, premium AMG floor mats and stainless steel pedals. On the exterior the most recognisable feature is the formidable and stylish diamond grille. The chrome pins and single louvre give an undeniable level of distinction to the front of the vehicle, while visible exhausts add sportiness to the back to the vehicle.

Add the minimum 18 inch alloy wheels and the overall effect is unquestionably fierce. The AMG Line features can vary across models, and can include optional equipment packages to enhance the technology and comfort functions of your car.

Mercedes-AMG - Driving Performance

From the agile 43 to the roar of a GT, AMG engines are designed to perform. There are AMG variants of most Mercedes-Benz models, with the most sought after being the beautiful GT Coupe.

Along with the impeccable styling of an AMG Line car, it's the engine that makes these cars shine. Nearly all AMG engines are hand-crafted under the ‘One Man – One Engine’ standard. Each engine is built by a single engineer and once completed bears the signature of its maker, exemplifying the precision and performance that AMG is known for.

The quality of the Mercedes-AMG engine is known for driving performance, and the synchronisation of chassis systems transforms power into a truly dynamic drive. Over 25 Mercedes-AMG models deliver over 500 horsepower, and do 0 – 60mph in less than 6 seconds.

AMG Ride Control sports suspension and speed sensitive sports steering, combined with 4MATIC all-wheel drive and enhanced aerodynamics deliver a superior driving experience. One’s things for sure, you’ll know an AMG for its sound before anything else.

The roaring engines, starting at a 4 cylinder turbo through to a thundering V12, add to the absolute adrenaline rush that comes from getting behind the wheel. As an AMG customer you will also be invited to exclusive events and have access to AMG Private Lounge membership.
