Staff News July 2021

Good afternoon all and welcome to this month’s staff e-news.

Just a brief introduction from me this month following the recent communication about the easing of restriction on Monday. With the passing of so called ‘Freedom Day’ at the start of the week, our stance to change very little when it comes to Covid security seems to have been well pitched with both customers and staff members alike. Although it’s early days, common sense seems to be prevailing with the nation largely taking personal responsibility for their actions – even in the heat!

With regards to our business performance, the end of June marked the closing of an ‘interesting’ first half of the year – with a revised hope and optimism for a more normal H2. That’s not to say the business has not performed admirably throughout this period and in common with the previous 5 months, our June performance was no exception. At the retail sites, used car volumes continued to be very strong despite the challenges of stock acquisition and although a number of new cars slipped into Q3 due to production issues, the overall number of new units delivered in June was still very commendable. Site 5 also worked hard to secure what they could in a very difficult new car marketplace (made all the more difficult with volume being diverted to the Retail customer channel) but their used performance continued to be very positive – both in the non-franchised arena (via Tangelo which is the new name for the Part Exchange Centre) and also in MBSW Online which in effect is our fifth Mercedes-Benz used car site (albeit virtually). In the aftersales environment, the bounce back from Lockdown continued with not just our highest number of workshop visits so far this year but also a record trade performance across the Market Area. It appears the world is in full catch-up mode following the previous 16 months.

So as I mentioned, its full steam into H2 and hopefully making the most of the current market buoyancy. However, the need to be more innovative than ever before remains – as with a lack of new and used cars to sell in order to capitalise on this demand requiring very ‘smart working’. Thankfully, what Mercedes-Benz South West has always been good at is adapting to change and I’m confident that whatever challenges are presented to us over the next few months, we’ll adjust and maximise. Such is our way…
