What makes the Final Edition E63 S the Final Edition?

13 Oct 2023

There are inevitably going to be a number of goodbyes to fuel-powered vehicles in the coming years, but this one may be the saddest: the farewell of the AMG V8 in pure petrol form.

The twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 that made the Mercedes-AMG E63 S so iconic is on its way out, but not before a celebration of its existence with the Final Edition, of which they are only 999 made.

Exclusive exterior

There’s a significant amount of special trim to make the car special in its final form, including being available with just one finish: the matte graphite grey magno, enhanced with racing stripes decals between the wheels.

Sitting on gloss-black 20-inch forged alloys, the Final Edition also features other gloss black elements including the front splitter, trim strips, window surrounds, and wing mirror housing, courtesy of the AMG Night Package which comes as standard. Black chrome twin tailpipes and tinted windows complete the exclusive finish – it’s hard to be inconspicuous in this icon.

To protect the flawless exterior, each model comes with a bespoke car cover emblazoned with 'AMG E63 S Final Edition’.

Distinct interior

The Final Edition’s interior is unmistakably AMG. The extra-supportive Nappa leather seats are ideal for dynamic driving manoeuvres, and the leather and microfibre finish is consistent throughout – including the steering wheel. The yellow contrast stitching finishes the look, adding that specific sporty personality. The AMG Night Package comes as standard.

Of course, the interior features the iconic special edition badges, including the AMG Final Edition plaque with edition number. There’s no doubting the inimitability of this vehicle.

Open your door, and you’ll see the puddle lighting system project the AMG logo on the floor. The black stainless steel tread plates also show the illuminated yellow AMG lettering.

Powerful performance

Mechanically, the E63 S hasn’t changed much, but it didn’t need to. The 4-litre twin-turbo V8 offers 604bhp and 850Nm of torque, taking you from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds. The system is, of course, switchable, with Drift Mode deactivating the drive to the front wheels for the ultimate driving experience.
