Meet the Team - Tom Horton, Local Business Development Manager

For this month’s Meet The Team, we’re at Mercedes-Benz of Truro to meet Local Business Development Manager Tom Horton. Let’s learn a little bit more about Tom and his experience working at Mercedes-Benz South West.

Interview Highlights

How would you describe yourself?

I'm an outgoing, fun and sociable person! I like to spend time with friends and i'm also enthusiastic.

What attracted you to a career with Mercedes-Benz South West?

Until the age of 32 I was always in hospitality management for restaurants, private member clubs and larger venues in the UK and Australia. I was due to start as Food and Beverage Manager for The Cornwall Hotel in April 2018 when the agency that I used to source work and to source staff asked if I could temp on reception at Mercedes-Benz of Truro. I was extremely impressed by the structure and the professionalism of the brand and Mercedes-Benz South West (as well as loving the product!). The Sales Manager at the time offered for me to host in the showroom with an aim to move into Sales without having to become a Trainee. I then took over as smart Specialist in 2019 which was an extremely exciting time as the brand was being fully electrified. Apparently we sold the most smarts in the UK from Truro at that time. I then moved into Mercedes-Benz and took over as the EQ Specialist before becoming Transaction Manager and then Local Business Development Manager.

What is your favourite part of your job?

I enjoy meeting and collaborating with local businesses to broaden our reach in Cornwall. I love seeing a customer happy when finding the right model and handing it over to them.

What do you do in your spare time?

I like to swim, go to the gym, travel, socialise with friends, bbqs on the beach, walks in the Cornish countryside, theatre, music and film

What is your favourite thing about the South West?

I love the Cornish coastline, countryside and people.

What is your favourite Mercedes-Benz model?

The EQE or EQS

What’s a fun fact about you?

My family is involved in the National Youth Music Theatre. When I was 5/6, I was in a long term touring production of Caucasian Chalk Circle where Jonny Lee Miller and Jude Law played my fathers.
