MBUX: The Mercedes-Benz User Experience

The Mercedes-Benz User Experience System (MBUX), is our infotainment system intertwined with artificial intelligence to enhance your user experience and personalise your drive. Since MBUX arrived in 2018, we’ve seen some exciting software updates and brand new features have been introduced to upgrade your adventures to a whole new level.  

Individualisation

Theme Displays

The theme display feature allows you to create mood presets at the push of a button, to create the perfect cockpit for you. Mood presets include illustrations on the instrument display, media display, mood lighting and driving mood.

User Action Prediction

We all have our own habits and preferences which is what makes up our own unique personality, this carries through to the way we use our cars. MBUX learns more about you on each journey and memorises your preferences. The more you drive the accuracy on its predictions increases. For a seamless experience you can opt to control your car using features such as voice control, touchpad and touchscreen. MBUX will adapt your natural preferences and remember your favourite songs, favourite radio stations and your frequently phoned telephone numbers. If you’re on your daily commute and your usual route is congestion it can even redirect you to quicker routes therefore saving time.

Display Styles

There are a whole host of exciting features included to make your cockpit unique. You can customise the design and the entire look and feel of the screen! You can choose between four display styles: ‘Classic’, ‘Progressive’, ‘Subtle’ or ‘Sport. You can tailor these displays to match your individual requirements as they influence the interior atmosphere, especially when paired with the optional variety of colours available through ambient lighting.

Operating Systems

LINGUATRONIC Voice Control System

If you opt for the LINGUATRONIC voice control system, your vehicle will be responding to your needs via your commands. MBUX can enhance your safety by reading out your text messages and you can reply to texts with your voice. Worried about the weather? Or do you want to change the radio station? Just simply say ‘Hey Mercedes’ and your vehicle is all ears, you can ask your car anything. MBUX can even tell you a joke if you ask nicely!

MBUX Interior Assist

MBUX is so intelligent that it can detect and interpret your hand and arm movements, this means that you can make yourself more comfortable in a matter of seconds. The system can differentiate between the driver and front passenger, so that you can reach the exact menus that you wish to use.

Touch Control Concept

Our vehicles come with the option to use a touch display, alternatively there is a touchpad integrated in the centre console if you find that more convenient. The touchpad responds to single and multi-finger gestures, you can even handwrite using this feature if you prefer. If you’re still unsure if this would suit you, the MBUX displays can also be controlled using the touch control buttons on the steering wheel.

Screens and Connectivity

Head-Up Display

The head-up display transforms your vehicle with an exciting digital cockpit to give you that smooth and sport look. The horizontal screen means that you will always a clear view of key information but keeps your eyes firmly on the road.

Wireless Charging

With the latest technology, you don’t even have to worry about keeping your phone fully charged! Our wireless charging smartphone feature means that you can just drop your smartphone in the allocated tray and start charging. Please note that compatibility will be based on selected models and brands of smartphones.

Smartphone Integration

You can link your smartphone to the media system via Apple Car Play or Android Auto. This means that you will be able to access your apps via the multimedia screen on your vehicle.

Over The Air Updates

Like most software, MBUX will need to undergo regular updates. But with our ‘Over The Air Updates’ feature your update will install in the background and won’t be an inconvenience. With this feature you can also upgrade your MBUX without having to go in store, you will always have the latest software and it’s more convenient than ever.

MBUX Hyperscreen

In our latest all-electric models, the EQE and the EQS we saw the launch of the impressive MBUX Hyperscreen. This futuristic screen has a width of 141 centimetres is the largest and most intelligent interface built by Mercedes-Benz to date. It’s easy to use and learns so much about you the more you use it. A new feature on the Hyperscreen is ‘MBUX Zero Layer’. This involves a clear user interface with large map view and individual selection tiles can be intuitively operated, without having to scroll through sub-menus. This feature was previously exclusive to our EQE and EQS models but is now available for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and S-Class.
