Sustainable Summer Road Trip – Cornwall

30 Sep 2021
As summer draws to a close, so does our Sustainable Summer Road Trip. We have shown off some of the best parts of our corner of the country, all behind the wheel of our electric and hybrid vehicles. The final leg of our trip takes us to the home of the Cornish pasty, Poldark and the 2021 G7 Summit – Cornwall. Joining us for the day was manonabeach founder and Mercedes-Benz South West customer, Ian Brighouse. manonabeach poses the question ‘What does the beach mean to you?’ so who better to take us around the home of some of the country’s favourite beaches. Ian swapped his C-Class for a GLC Hybrid to experience a greener vehicle for the day. View our video below: [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrcRUrnjxdM[/embed] The first stop on our day in Cornwall we headed 30 minutes north of Mercedes-Benz of Truro, home to one of the nation’s favourite seaside towns, Newquay. We visited Hendra Holiday Park to take on an alternative form of transport with Cornwall Segway. Their ultimate Segway experience is led by expert instructors and is open to most ages and abilities. Cornwall Segway certainly gave us a fun start to our day with the instructors teaching us how to safely operate the segways and guide us on our tour. Cornwall Segway Cornwall is an outdoor adventure haven for those looking to take in the fresh air whilst getting the adrenaline pumping. Adrenalin Quarry near Liskard is an adventurers dream with a wet and wild aqua park, freefalling giant swing and a 490m zip wire. Of course you can’t visit Cornwall without heading to one of its beautiful beaches. Our next stop was Fistral Beach, the home of UK surfing and the spot where Ian was inspired to start manonabeach. Cornwall is renowned for its surf and hosts many competitions throughout the year. You can find some of the surfing hotspots in our Surfing and Paddle Boarding around the South West article. Fistral Beach After our walk along Fistral Beach we headed into Rick Stein, Fistral where fish and chips was on the menu. Cornwall is known for its food so whether you fancy a traditional Cornish pasty, a cream tea (jam first for the true Cornish experience) or you fancy something a little more localised such as a Stargazy pie (pilchards, eggs and potatoes covered in a crust), you won’t find yourself stuck for food choice when visiting this county. Fish and chips The final stop on our Sustainable Summer Road Trip was certainly fitting to the theme of our tour. We headed to Launceston to the stylish Ekopod site, a glamping experience like no other. Spending an evening under the stars in a luxurious geodome is a great way to tie up our trip around the South West. Getting closer to nature and enjoying a more sustainable lifestyle.
