There’s no better driving feeling than cruising with the windows down and your favourite song bursting through the speakers. As the summer looms and lockdown eases, we’ve been getting excited about more time and freedom to spend in the car, and as a result, enjoying belting out a tune or two.
Good for You
The truth is, there is actually some science behind why singing along to the stereo gives us such intense feelings of joy. Singing in itself is known to alleviate the symptoms of stress and depression, and is therefore often a good way to counteract the mundanity of a long drive. This article from Huffington Post, includes examples from psychologists who prescribe a sing-a-long in the car to patients as a way of manifesting positive energy and working through unprocessed emotions.
Singing at the top of your lungs also causes the body to produce positive-mood hormones such as oxytocin and dopamine, which are both linked to better mood. This also makes for safer driving and also a better mood when you reach your destination.
Your Mercedes-Benz Sound System
The good news is that as well as being a comfortable and luxurious drive, your Mercedes-Benz is also the perfect sound system for your favourite playlist. The majority of our models have a Burmester Sound System option. This premium system is tailored to each model with up to 14 high-performance speakers to provide a superior 3D sound experience.
Each Mercedes-Benz sound system is also fully integrated with our intelligent infotainment system, MBUX, which will allow you to personalize your balance levels and save them to your individual driver profile. Perfect for those who go from a rockstar commute to a pop-filled family ride at the weekends!
Take the Stage
So wind down the windows and take a deep breath, you’ve got the science to prove that an in-car karaoke session is well worth it, and the technology to make it feel like you’re headlining the pyramid stage at Glastonbury.
We’ve even created a Summer Playlist of top driving tunes, as chosen by our enthusiastic and musical staff members at Mercedes-Benz South West. Happy travels.
