Meet the Team: Stephen Bishop, Service Manager

05 Sep 2020
This month's Meet the Team takes us to Cornwall to meet Stephen Bishop, Service Manager at Mercedes-Benz of Truro. Tell us about yourself Stephen: I have always liked nice cars, but I stumbled into the motor trade as my vehicle engineering teacher was the only one that could control me! I grew up in South Birmingham, with a love for football and an addiction for everything Mod (music and fashion).  I spent all of my teens and my twenties (and thirties!) following my first love, Birmingham City. I left school and got a YTS as a mechanic but it was not for me and I joined Vauxhall Motors as Service Advisor. I went on to become a Service Manager at the age of 25, then moved on to Volkswagen as a Service Manager.  I moved down to Newquay nine years ago to re-marry and I have two wonderful children back in Birmingham. Eventually,  I took on the role of Service Manager at our Truro site so I have worked in the motor trade my whole life. How long have you been working at Mercedes-Benz South West? Just over 4 years. Where are you from? Birmingham. Favourite Mercedes-Benz model? The 1973 S250, it's a very cool car from when cars had character. Favourite part of the job? Beating targets. Do you have any pets? I have one dog, a cockapoo called Beau Brummie. Have you always been in the motor trade? Yes,  since 1986 and have been managing in the motor trade since 1995. Best holiday you’ve ever been on? Every holiday in Italy, we had our honeymoon in Sorrento and we have returned to the Amalfi coast 4 times since. We have been to Rome and  Sardinia. I am in love with the country because it has everything, style, scenery, food and wine! How many attempts did it take you to pass your driving test? Passed first time. What radio station are you listening to when you drive? Talk Sport. Favourite place to visit in the South West? St Ives, because it has great food and is a very special place. Favourite Film? Quadrophenia. Tipple of choice? A lager with the lads and a Tarquin Seadog gin and tonic with the wife. What would be your Karaoke song? Harry Lauder : Keep right on to the end of the road. What was the first concert you ever went to? The Specials at the Birmingham Odeon at the age of ten! If the world ends tomorrow, what would you choose as your last meal? Birmingham Balti. What's at the top of your bucket list? To ride my Lambretta through Brighton! It’s a Mod thing. What are you most looking forward to this year? Going to Sicily. Finally… Jam then cream, or cream then jam? Nick Hankins says the only way is jam then cream. We have friendly and knowledgeable staff across the South West. Find your local Mercedes-Benz to find our more.
