Our Ambassadors: Luke Cowan-Dickie

29 Sep 2020
Mercedes-Benz South West is excited to welcome one of the region's sporting gems, Luke Cowan-Dickie, as our latest ambassador - celebrating the long standing relationship between Mercedes-Benz and sporting excellence. Luke despite his huge success stories playing at a soaring speed for both England and Exeter rugby teams is still very much a Cornishman at heart and is proud to be so. Initially starting out as a prop at Truro College, Luke will now be found on the field as a hooker which is a specialist forward, playing an essential role in the middle of the front row of the scrum. He spends many hours training for the build-up to a game and his team mates are like a second family. If you can’t find him on the rugby field he will be spending time with his beautiful tribe at home; Luke and his girlfriend Chloe welcomed their adorable son earlier this year becoming first time parents. Luke loves every part of the West Country and enjoys nothing more than kicking back on a Cornish beach or walking his four legged friends over Dartmoor.

We caught up with Luke to find out more about him.

How did you get into rugby and what makes you proud to represent the South West? My parents dropped me to my first training session when I was 5 years old. I completely loved it and never looked back. The South West is my home and being able to represent it by playing a sport that I love makes me proud of where I come from, as well as how much we have achieved as a team. Winning the Premiership in 2017 was an experience I will never forget. What are your top 3 favorite things about the Mercedes-Benz brand? I have always had a passion for Mercedes-Benz and not sure where to start… I have always loved the interior and how modern it looks and feels. I currently have red leather and it is a real head turner. Of course the roaring engines, you can’t beat an AMG - the sound is something else! For such a world renowned brand I love the inspirational message and once you have owned one you are part of the MB family. You really feel this when visiting the showrooms. Everyone is proud to own a Mercedes-Benz and they all look smart it doesn’t matter which vehicle you have in the range, all the cars are impressive. What radio station do you listen to? LBC If you only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Oh, it has got to be Chloe’s Sunday roast. She honestly makes the BEST roast, normally beef with extra Yorkshire puddings! How many times did it take you to pass your driving test? It was twice. The first attempt didn’t go too well, I end up with a fair few majors! But a week later I passed with 2 minors, turned it around. If you had one day free to spend anywhere in the South West where would you go? I would go home to Penzance so I can spend time with my family. I love nothing more than seeing them and chilling out by the sea. What is an interesting fact about you? Well, some might not think this is interesting but about a year ago I played 'Call Of Duty – Search and Destroy' so much I got to number one in the world. What was your first vehicle? Back in the day I purchased a Vauxhall Corsa for a sum of £400, it got written off and came back to life. It was a fighter, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is still roaming around Cornwall! Do you have any pets? I am the proud owner of two French bulldogs, Teddy and Alfie. What is your favourite vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz range? It has got to be the GTS, I owned one a few years back and it was amazing! Hands down the best vehicle and so much fun to drive. What song would you choose for Car Pool Karaoke? Well at the moment I am watching Moana with my son every morning. I'm not sure he would agree but I think I could give any of the sound track ago, You’re Welcome! What is your favourite pizza topping? Nice and easy pepperoni pizza*. * When asked if he thinks it's acceptable to eat pineapple on pizza – we can report it was a definite no!
We're pleased to welcome Luke to join our team of local sporting Ambassadors alongside Somerset County Cricket Captain Tom Abell, and fellow Rugby star Jack Yeandle.
