Our Ambassadors: Tom Abell, Somerset Cricket Captain

Here at Mercedes-Benz South West we're proud to support local sporting talent, celebrating the long standing relationship between Mercedes-Benz and sporting excellence. Our latest Mercedes-Benz South West Ambassador is Somerset Cricket Captain Tom Abell. Tom made his debut for Somerset 2nd XI in 2010 and was appointed Captain in 2017 - the first former academy player to take on the role. As our Ambassador, Tom will be supporting the work of Mercedes-Benz South West, including our work with local schools and sporting talent. We caught up with Tom to get to know him a little better.
How did you get into cricket and what makes you proud to represent Somerset? I guess I have my brothers to thank really as we used to play relentlessly in the garden from as soon as we could walk! We played all sports together but I probably started playing properly at the age of 7 or 8. As a boy, I used to watch Somerset play and it very quickly became a passion of mine, and then a dream to play for Somerset. So for that to have become a reality is something I will never take for granted. Somerset cricket is something very special and it means absolutely everything to me!Describe your dream road trip and who you would take with you? My dream road trip would probably take me to the South of France, such a beautiful part of the world! If I could get hold of Ricky Gervais, I would love to have a road trip with him! Failing that, I would go with my 2 brothers despite their taste in music. If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Our Strength and Conditioning coach would never forgive me for saying this, but it would have to be Pizza! Can’t beat Italian food! How many times did it take you to pass your driving test? I wouldn’t want anyone thinking badly of my driving, so I would say 1st time regardless! But it genuinely was 1st time! If you had one day free to spend anywhere in the South West, where would you go? St Ives in Cornwall! What is an interesting fact about you? I had an interview at Oxford to study French...didn’t get in! What is the worst Christmas present you have ever received? Myself and my little brother got 2 for 1 Maltesers from my older brother! Do you have any pets? No, but I am desperate for a dog! Just not sure I could look after one at the moment! What is your favourite vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz range? I’d have to say G-Wagon! But I'm also really enjoying the C-Class Coupe that I'm currently driving. What song would you chose for Carpool Karaoke? Walking Away - Craig David
What are your top 3 favourite things about your new Mercedes-Benz? Where do I start! It has been my first experience in a Mercedes-Benz and I am still in heaven every time I drive my car! But to choose 3...the first would be how smooth the car drives! The second, has to be the modern interior and finally, the image. The car looks awesome!
