One-of-a-kind smart car designed by Plymouth College of Art graduate

Smart South West is proud to continue their ongoing collaboration with Plymouth College of Art and their students. For the first of a selection of briefs issued to the college this year, students were tasked with designing special edition exteriors for the smart fortwo and smart forfour. The two winning designs were created by now-graduated Sarah Court. They were chosen out of an extremely impressive set of final submissions for their striking visual effect and combined commercial appeal.

When asked about her inspiration for the two designs, Sarah said: “Given the two different audiences for the smart fortwo and the smart forfour, I began by loosely exploring themes of order versus chaos. From those early experiments, I created more structured, textural patterns for the smart forfour, alongside developing an inky, more spontaneous personal drawing of mine that seemed perfect for the smart fortwo.”

A smart fortwo featuring Sarah's winning design was displayed at the entrance to the College throughout June and for the College's Degree Show. It has subsequently accompanied us throughout our events season and will make a starring appearance at our highly anticipated SMARTathlon in September.
