My story of the Mercedes-Benz Pagoda
From a very young age I was bitten by the petrol head bug and by twelve years old I was working in my local restoration centre for £10 per day which equates to about £38 now, which is where I learnt the basics of maintenance on classic cars.
My mother bought me my first British classic car a Triumph Spitfire. I tinkered with the vehicle until it was completed restored and ready to go. Whilst this was a good start, I had my sights set on a bigger and better project, a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing but never thought it would be achievable.
After a few years of looking around for the rare Gullwing, my mother stumbled across a Mercedes-Benz specialist garage on the outskirts of Brussels whilst on a trip to Belgium. To her amazement upon entering the garage she was greeted by various vintage cars, including a well-kept 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Pagoda which she fell in love with and decided to purchase as an investment.
She returned to Cornwall and we had the pictures developed of the stunning Pagoda and I was so excited at the prospect of this new project! As I glanced over the images I noticed a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing in the background. It needed a full restoration and was on sale for €20, less than half of what we had paid for our Mercedes-Benz W113 at the time!
After successful restoration our stunning Mercedes-Benz Pagoda has been in the family for over 25 years now, we’ve made amazing memories and I’ve found myself loving this car more and more each day.
