EQ Power from Mercedes-Benz

10 Jan 2021
The electric future is closer than ever to becoming a reality and the Mercedes-Benz electric and hybrid EQ Power range is dedicated to creating environmentally friendly options across our range. We are pleased to be releasing EQ Power variants of several of our most popular models which is part of our road map to offering a fully electrified range by 2022.

Why are electric cars important?

The obvious aim of electric vehicles is to reduce the environmental impact of harmful chemicals produced by more traditional combustion engines. Hybrid and electric cars are a more sustainable option as they do not rely on fossil fuels, but instead use (either partly or fully) a rechargeable battery. This battery is electrically charged as does therefore not emit pollution back into the environment. What’s more, you can reduce your carbon footprint even more by choosing an energy provider that uses renewable power, or better yet by opting for solar powering your home with panels. In 2019 the government passed a net zero emissions law which requires the UK to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. As part of reaching this target the sale of petrol and diesel cars will be banned by 2035. By making the decision to move to either electric or hybrid now you have a chance to lead the way in electric driving and to take active steps to reducing your footprint today.

The difference between electric and hybrid vehicles

Electric: An electric vehicle runs purely on battery power. These cars provide a quiet and luxurious driving experience, with impressive driving capability; the Mercedes-Benz EQC runs 0 – 60mph in just 4.90 seconds plus 402 bhp. An electric vehicle can be charged at home or on the road with a wallbox charger and your range will be based on the amount of charge you have available. The full-charge range of the Mercedes-Benz EQC is 259 miles. smart vehicles have an electric range of 75-83 miles when fully charged. Hybrid: A hybrid vehicle combines traditional fuel with battery power to adapt to your driving need, and is a wise option is your driving style is regularly varied between shorter local journeys and longer motorway driving. A hybrid vehicle gives you the power to decide. For shorter drives you can opt to use pure electric power and when the engine needs an extra boost your traditional fuel will kick in. Regenerative braking systems take the energy created when using the brake and convert it into electric charge for your battery. If you choose a plug-in hybrid you can then charge your battery via a home wallbox or via a local charging point.

Mercedes-Benz EQ Power

Mercedes-Benz EQ Power is designed with your future in mind. This new brand of electric power is rooted in the two founding principles of Mercedes-Benz: emotion and intelligence. EQ Ready

If your heart is geared towards lessening the environmental impact of your car without compromising on driving experience then EQ Power is the answer. The engineering is every bit Mercedes-Benz and has performance at its heart. The luxury and technology in the vehicle matches all the expectations of the best, or nothing that our brand is known for.

Mercedes-Benz uses lithium ion batteries which come with a Battery Certificate. This warranty covers any technical malfunctions up to 62,000 miles (or six years) for a hybrid or 100,000 miles (or eight years) for electric vehicles.

The Benefits of EQ Power

Although you may pay more for an electric car, there are many cost benefits. Electric power is much cheaper than fuel at the pumps, so your daily running costs will be dramatically reduced compared to a traditional engine. You will also find that your battery requires less maintenance than a traditional engine. Whereas a traditional engine has a great deal of expensive parts which could need repairing, a battery is easier to maintain. Electric vehicles are made to fit into the modern world and the technology available is second to none. Plug in electric and hybrid vehicles give you the option to pre-set the climate of your car so it is the perfect temperature when you get in. Plus, intelligent augmented navigation reacts to live traffic updates to re-route your journey, finds the closest charging points and will make recommendations based on how much charge is required to reach your destination. Add in an impressive suite of Mercedes-Benz autonomous drive safety features and you have all the benefits of a top of the range car without the environmental impact. There is also reduced tax for hybrid engines and £0 to pay for electric vehicles. If you’re considering a hybrid or electric for your company car the benefit in kind will also have positive results for your bottom line, see our latest business offers here. We’ve partnered with Go Ultra Low for you to compare your vehicle tax between our models.

The app will then monitor your driving style and make a recommendation on the best powertrain for your from across our smart and Mercedes-Benz range.

Charging Points in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset

The creation of sustainable energy has long been a key concern of the South West. As such, the local charging infrastructure is improving all the time. Public charging points are becoming more commonplace, and are often provided at local tourist spots as well as on key points on the road network. Our partners ZapMap feature all of the local charging points. You can also apply to your local council for an on-street charging point should you not have access to off-street parking. There are now more than 35,000 charge points across the UK in over 13,000 locations - that's more public places to charge than petrol stations, with around 7,000 charge points added in 2020 alone.
