October half term is our cue to get our costumes on and our pumpkins picked for the scariest and spookiest time of the year, Halloween! With the kids off school and wanting to get seasonal, we thought we’d put together some South West Halloween activities that the whole family can do to enjoy this half term.

In this post, we’ll be sharing some of our favourite Halloween events across the South West to ensure you and your family are well and truly in the Halloween spirit. From pumpkin picking, to spooky entertainment, there is something for everyone so you can all get involved!

Somerset

Monkton Elm - Taunton, Somerset

The Taunton garden centre is holding pumpkin carving sessions throughout the half term break for the whole family. With half hour slots available, it's recommended you book ahead to avoid dissapointment. Monkton Elm is also offering Halloween tea light painting sessions too for extra crafting afternoons!

Thurloxton Farm – Taunton, Somerset

Thurloxton Farm in Taunton have a dedicated carving barn for pickers to get creative in a warm and dry area should the weather be typically British. The pumpkin patch will be open until 30th October.

Puxton’s Spooktacular Half Term – Puxton Park, Weston-Super-Mare

There is a wealth of Halloween activites for both the adults and the kids at Puxton’s this October half-term. Start off with pumpkin picking on the patch, before enjoying magic and comedy shows. Get your face painted, and then hit the dancefloor during the spooky disco!

Crealy Theme Park and Resort – Clyst St Mary, Exeter

The Crealy Spook-Fest is back this October half term offering a spook-tacular series of Halloween themed days and activities perfect for the whole family. Pumpkin Patch will be manning his very own plot of pumpkins waiting for you to head over and pick your very own free home-grown pumpkin. Or, dare yourself to check-in to the infamous Creaky Hotel, keep an eye out for The Spooky Street Circus, or take part in the Scarecrow Scaremaze.

Haunted Hay Bales Halloween Hunt – The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth

Visit The Donkey Sanctuary and follow the Halloween hunt to find the secret hiding spot of the Halloween Neddies hidden around the sanctuary. The spooktacular activity combines family fun, brainpower and exercise, including a treat upon completion. Friendly dogs on leads are welcome too!

Boo at the Zoo – Dartmoor Zoo, Sparkwell, Plymouth

Enjoy a fang-tastic night at Dartmoor Zoo - if you dare! Hosted over two nights - both filled with nail biting frights and hair raising delights. Although the event has areas suitable for most families, some areas will not be suitable for young children, but they will provide a map to help you find the right spooks and thrills for you.

Cornwall

Trevaskis Farm - Hayle, Cornwall

With pick your own days out running throughout the year, it's not just pumpkins you will find down at Trevaskis Farm this half term. Only pay for what you pick and take a trip to the farm shop and restaurant on site.

Cornish Maize Maze and Fun Farm – Pillaton, Saltash

Pumpkin patch with pumpkin picking, a short maze with a Halloween themed quiz ideal for families with younger children. All the normal farm animals will be there too!

Looking for more horror? Gain entry to the Halloween Maze of Horrors but beware, this is not for the faint hearted! The Halloween Horror Maze consists of a set route with plenty of scare scenes along the way. On site there will be actors performing fire stunts and a BBQ will be available along the normal café refreshments!

Please note: Families are welcome for the Maze of Horrors, but parent’s discretion is advised.

Halloweden - Eden Project, Bodelva, Cornwall

Head to the Eden Project this October half-term for an all-new Halloweden adventure. Meet the legendary Tree Giants on their quest to protect the world's forests.

Other activities include fun on the ice rink, wand making workshops as well as everything else the Eden Project has to offer.

Please note, all visits to Eden must be pre-booked in advance, including those who visit for free.

Halloween Ball - Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro

Join the spoktacular evening at the Royal Cornwall Museum's Halloween Ball. Dance the night away and join in with the spooky activities happening throughout the evening. Take part in the spooky scavenger hunt, creepy crafts and enjoy some perilous potions.
