October half term is our cue to get our costumes on and our pumpkins picked for the scariest and spookiest time of the year, Halloween! With the kids off school and wanting to get seasonal, we thought we’d put together some activities the whole family can do to enjoy this half term, and what better way to kick things off than pumpkin picking.
In this post, we’ll be highlighting some of our favourite locations across the South West to go pumpkin picking to ensure you and your family are well and truly in the Halloween spirit. Picking the pumpkins is the easy part, the hard part is getting creative when it’s time to get carving!
Crealy Theme Park and Resort – Clyst St Mary, Exeter
The Crealy Spook-Fest is back this October half term offering a spook-tacular series of Halloween themed days and activities perfect for the whole family. Pumpkin Patch will be manning his very own plot of pumpkins waiting for you to head over and pick your very own free home-grown pumpkin. There’s also a chance to meet Pumpkin Patch himself! Pips Pick Your Own – Yealmpton, Plymouth
How about picking your own pumpkin and stocking up on all your favourite fruit and veg at the same time? Pips is the place for you. After you’ve picked your pumpkin, you can head into the onsite farm shop and grab yourself a jar of honey produced directly from the bees on the farm. If you’re looking for a quieter and perhaps more countryside experience, Pips is the ideal location for you. Darts Farm – Topsham, Exeter
This October half term, Darts Farm are hosting their second ever Pick-Your-Own Pumpkin Festival. Known for their sheer love and passion for great food, it’s not surprising Darts Farm have created a pumpkin menu which includes information of the various types of pumpkins you can pick from their fields. Thurloxton Farm – Taunton, Somerset
Back by popular demand for another year, Thurloxton Farm in Taunton have a dedicated carving barn for pickers to get creative in a warm and dry area should the weather be typically British. The pumpkin patch will be open until 31st October. Learn more here:
Cornish Maize Maze and Fun Farm – Pillaton, Saltash
Looking for more than just pumpkin picking? Cornish Maize Maze have you covered. This year they are offering pumpkin-packed days to keep you entertained. First, head to the pumpkin patch to do some pickin’. Then, find your way around a Halloween themed maze before taking part in a spooky quiz. Orway Pumpkins – Kentisbeare, Cullompton
Open from the 23rd-31st, Orway Pumpkins are very excited to welcome you to their patch this half term. No booking is needed and with parking and refreshments available on site, it really is as simple as turn up and start picking. Family farm animals will be out and about too which adds a nice touch. Trevaskis Farm – Hayle, Cornwall
Set in the beautiful Cornish countryside, Trevaskis Farm offers a fun family day out picking pumpkins of all shapes and sizes plus the chance to pick strawberries, blackberries and raspberries too. There’s no need to book just turn up on the day. Find out more here:
